Under the Sea in Flores

December 19, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

Our last destination in Indonesia was the island of Flores. This island is world renown for its variety of underwater species, with over 1,000 species of tropical fish and 260 species of reef building corals, our diving experience was a feast for the eyes. We spent 3 days diving, with multiple dives each day. Our last day of diving we were lucky enough to visit Rinca Island in Komodo National Park to see komodo dragons inthe wild! It was a terrifying and amazing experience for sure.

Lombok and the Gili Islands in Indonesia

November 13, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

It's a rainy day here in Auckland, so I couldn't help but look back on photos from our time in Lombok and the Gili Islands in Indonesia. White sand beaches, crystal clear turqouise waters, stunning waterfalls, and a fantastic tan.

Braving the Roads on Nusa Penida

September 14, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

Nusa Penida, an island most visitors only see as a day trip from Bali. We opted instead to stay on this tiny island for 3 days and get the full experience of island life. This allowed us to see all this island has to offer and get to know the people here too. As the island has only just become popular in the last 5 or so years, the feel here is more genuine than what we experienced in Bali. You also cannot deny the beauty here!

Exploring the Rest of Bali

September 04, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

Our next post describes all of our daytrips from our place in Ubud. We scootered all over Bali, with some successes and some failures too! Surfing in Kuta, beach hopping in South Kuta, making tempeh in Denpasar, waterfall hiking around Aling Aling waterfall, and attempting to dive a shipwreck site...we tried to make the most of our time in Bali!

A Balinese Birthday for St Patrick

August 28, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

Every year that I've been with Bryan, he seems to follow a tradition of celebrating his birthday with his friends via a St Patrick's day pub crawl, which always ends in debauchery of some sort and him swearing off Guiness forever--until the next year rolls around of course. This year he planned a little something different.

July 04, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

Our next destination in Bali was Ubud, which we called home for 4 weeks. Our first few days were all about Ogoh Ogohs (pictured) and Nyepi Day, which are preparations for the Balinese Hindu New Year.

Chilling in Canggu, Bali

June 22, 2019 by Lauren Wilson in Indonesia

After traveling nonstop in Thailand and Cambodia, Bryan and I were ready to slow down and stay somewhere for a while. We ended up staying in Bali for 5 weeks. Our first week was in Canggu, where we chilled at a surf and yoga retreat. Bryan sharpened his surfing skills--we have video proof!--and Lauren channeled her inner yogi.
